Learning Journal 7

Hi all my VIPS,

I hope despite the 'pressure'(weather nowadays is very unpredictable - it may rain heavily in the morning and sunny after that)all of you are up and going. Must be pretty tough; well that's is what life is all about. Have faith in what you are doing and things will be a bit better. After all - education is the most expensive investment - sometimes it takes all you have to achieve the best but I believed if you do it the smart way and the right way; it will be more meaningful at the end...

Three more weeks - all of you will be done with this semester; the experience, be it good or bad is meant to be evaluated for the betterment of your learning process. Share with me what you have learned from classroom, your friends, the unit involved and all in all what your teachers (Sifu) has shared with you during your learning process.

Obviously, I am more interested in knowing how my Chinese learner/s has learned especially all the new things. Do you find that now, you not only searched for the information but how you used the information to relate to the real business situation. Do you find it difficult when you have to reason out(remember my tagline- 'so what')or analyze the information. If so, why do you think it is so difficult and how do you overcome this difficulties.

And do you think that learning is about knowing the facts, memorizing it and then pour it out in the final exam (your're lucky if your brain is like a photocopy machine) or it is something that you need to do in the future (life long learning).

Well, I think I am asking too much here, but share your thoughts with me and in the mean time...your engine are all well service at the moment, so used to the limit but make sure you give your engine a rest when it need one...

Don't forget, show your appreciation to your mum who have given you all the love on Mother's day - doesn't have to be expensive present but an sms will keep you connected (use Nokia handphone - Connecting to People) and also your appreciation to all your teachers on "Teacher's Day".

I rest my case
Sifu..
"The best and most important part of our education is that which we give ourselves".

Hey Sifu,

As a matter of fact, most of the chinese learners like me are like memorising stuffs at first. However I think as time goes by, if they continue to do so, the brain will surely deteriote overtime. This is because I had learned that memorizing is really tough. So I think that now, I tend to try to understand the 'knack' in some theory then work my way out. Hahah! Therefore sometimes I think that there is where 'foreigners' have a little more edge than us as most of them work indepently (I assume and guess) Haha!
There is something that I would definitely agree. That education is really an expensive investment. I would say that it would have a negative ROI too. Hahah! Parents might not be able to get back their investments but then I think the results is what really counts. Some sense of achievements where their kids being able to graduate and be able to take care of themselves in the 'rough' world.
Oh well...its getting late and I think we'll continue this discussion some other time yea....

jhun

for me i learn best when i attend the lecture, i dont know why it happen that way but when finish lect then i understand more. so when almost exam, i can just go through very fast on the reading part because i know what it talk about. but i found out some of my friend they took quite long time to study for exam. But for them, they though that i m the weird one. Last time when i took the same unit with my sis, she get panic when she saw me start reading..i think that is after she start reading for 2 weeks already.. haha... she know that i can finish faster than her. so she say i give her pressure when i start my revision... im good in understanding stuff, but poor in grammar.. hehe.. dunno how to improve.. :p as for group project discussion, we just talk about the stuff for few mins, then every one argue and agree about it then case close, and strat to discuss about weather, gossip and other unnecessary stuf.. haha.. and now i cant believe the time past so fast... :s and exam coming soon and assignment also due soon and.. presentation.. so i guess this few week we'll become busy like hell again... anyway... wish all you there the best and

Things are really getting into a mess at the end of the semester, especially all due date is very near and some people still work like normal. Anyway, hope everything is going on fine with everyone.
I think I learnt quite a lot in this semester. kind of change my way of living. Especially being the final year student, pressure is coming from everywhere, family esp. Parents has the largest concern on how is everything, what job u gonna work, where you gonna be... though there is one more semester to go but... parents...
Anyway, back to learning. I use to be very good at memorising thing when I was a kid in primary, all I need to do is to go through once. But seems like it changes when I got into secondary school. Understanding the concept is a lot more easier to me. And I could apply it better. I usually would make understand of the concept during class and when it comes to exam, all I need to do is to browse through. Just simple, unless I'm so lucky to meet a lecturer that I really have no idea what he is teaching. But it seldom happen. Hmm... I think I talk too much.. should go back to work now..Wish everyone their very best in everything.

Jhunz,
negative ROI??? - don't tell your parents abotu this. Well, am just kidding - gaining knowledge is not an easy task - something that you learned should be able to reward you in the future - trust me; there is no end to learning...'life-long learning' is about learning continously - not just end in the classroom but you will learn new things again when you are out there working - bringing what yoy have learned in class and used it. The wording may be different from what the textbook says...but applying it...that's what matters. Hang in there Jhunz...and surely you will be there:

Akleincney,

Hi bloggers..that was long; thanks for alwasy being here to talk to me, sometimes not reading anything new here...you feel so alone; ya, I agree with what you said but don't worry - School, University is a place for yoy to learn new things - you should be able to explore and htink oput of the box....that would be fun....

wah see fu...

your last post sounded so sad ler... looks like as your 'tou dei' (which means 'disciple' in cantonese) have to make an effort here to entertain the see fu as often as possible...

anyways... yeap... things are gettin tight lately... suffocating some might say... workload becomes obvious at this time of the semester... and just when we filled the survey form, the question asked us about whether the workload is heavy or not... sighs... yes... i think i have to admit that i am kind of like releasing my stress here inputting irrelevant comments... hehe...

anyways... gotta thank the see fu for setting up this platform for us to release stress and express ourselves... hey.. i have an idea here.. why not our see fu put up some fun stuffs here in the blog like those videos you used to show us during class... i think this way you'll get more hits for your blog... heh heh heh..

alright then... was just procrastinating while doing my audit report so i guess i better head back to my journey before i label myself as doing 'last minute' work..

see you guys...
take care!!

Hi Lexy,

Nice note from you - I can see the changes that you have made in your learning process. IT's good that as you move up the ladder - you used different strategies and you should continue with that.

Never give up...as you are the only one that know what you want..

ah minnghui,

It's normal at this time of the semester - the stress level is a bit high but you should be able to control it - don't over work as you need to keep yourself fit in order to have a productive life...

Good idea of having the 'video clip'. I am still in the 'trial' stage. Need to learn more of this 'technology' stuff...sometimes it really test your patience. Am still wondering what happened to the song i posted in my blog. And apparently, I can use different font, colors to my blog...but not anymore!!!! sigh

hey.. seem like every one so stress out..here share with you guys some funny clips. http://ejokeimg.pchome.com.tw/see-post.html?cat=102&Flow_No=82&rank=&Page=0 and this one.. hehe.. http://ejokeimg.pchome.com.tw/see-post.html?cat=102&Flow_No=141&rank=&Page=0 cheer up.. dont stress ur self at this time... watch this to release the stress.. hehe... then must continue the work o~ hv a nice weeked!

Heh ya akleincney - am always careful everytime I type your name; anyway thanks for the funny clip - will view shortly. By the way have fun this week end...

Sifu!!! I am back!!!!
It has been a long time that i did not say some words in this blog...almost 3 weeks if i am not mistaken....

Well well well.....as time passes by....it is almost the end of the semester again....normally during this time in every semester, there is no time for fun, but only for our heavy assignments and projects..

Pressures and Stresses are all around everyone...the Curtin computer labs will be crowded by the students in the coming days, this is for sure since it happens almost every semester.

Anyway, to all my friends here, let's fight until the end of semester..it will be never too late for us to do something now before the due date of assignments as well as the final exam..

haha... anyway... go on and dump in your creative thoughts...

Here is a bunch of bullcraps i took from my frend's blog... quite interesting especially for you fellow legit voters..

topic is: How to drop your ballot...

*cropped from myfriendsblog.blogspot.com.. and no.. it is not the real website...

This time around, i am more prepared to vote. The steps are easy. Just remember to;

1) Have a steady grip on the piece of ballot paper. Double check on the authencity of the ballot paper through gently feeling the quality of the ballot paper with the tip of your finger. A smooth surfaced ballot paper "IS" a quality paper.

2) Positioned your fingers at a 45deg angle as your thumb and your 2nd finger meets.

3) Apply enough pressure on the ballot paper to ensure a steady grip. If you have trouble on deciding the amount of pressure, try to think of the ballot paper as a spoon.

4) With your body facing just a mere 2-1/2 feet away from the ballot box, slowly and steadily target the opening of the box and decide from which angle to slide your ballot paper in. Diameter of the opening varies at each polling station. The standard size will be around 3".

5) The most prefered angle to slide the ballot paper in is around 30deg as it does not put much pressure on your wrist. Some may attempt a 360deg angle which might look impressive but the consequences are having a sore joint around the wrist.

6) Ensure that your surroundings are left vacant to have your pictures taken. Remember to smile once you enter or exit the polling station. With so many camera flashes going on and off inside, it's ideal that you retain a respectable smile and confident walking posture. ( Only at certain polling stations )

Thank you.

special thanks to adam for his inspiring thoughts on the responsibility of malaysian citizens... though i thought they were utter bullcraps... haha

Hi Sifu,
Well, this is my first message ever since the start of this blog ;)
It has really been a hectic semester with lots of thing happening for example like my hard disc which just 'passed away' yesterday! I've to redo my assignments which add more to my stressfull life rite now. Oh! BP! BP! which is also gone! DISASTER!!

Anywayz, juz wanna say that i have learned many things from you since the start of SM class last semester. One thing is for sure, i have learned to participate more than before in class, as well as in other classes. Apart from that, is able to apply information i gather to real life business situations. Thank you for your continuous words of wisdom and support.

*sobs... ah... love is in the air... for our lecturers.. (*haha...) any ppl will to say how inspired they are from their great see fuus... only today... no exception from me.. i myself is quite inspired... though i should say the messages are quite touching but due to my manliness and pride that i have to protect, i have to hold back my tears till after my BP class, only to find myself crying like a baby in the G3 toilet cubicle...

anyway... the above are just said from the bottom of my heart... except the second half of the paragraph above (as i really am man enough to counter the 'touchingness' of our see fuu's inspiring speech).. but nevertheless, i will keep that in mind.. and heck... we need to do another year just for honours? crap... 1925*4*2 (which means 1925 per unit of subject multiply by 4 units per semester and 2 semesters in a year).. but well.. education is not limited to age.. so i guess this is the price to pay to get a fancier paper...

sighs.... tragedy of the 5-16 (not 9-11) has happened to my beloved and dearest group member... on her recent tombstone around her house backyard it writes:

"Here lies, Toshee (Toshiba),

(Dec 2001 - May 2006)

whom 30 gig of blood, sweat, and jugs of brain-juices worth of assignments,

passed away in peaceful sleep (actually sudden death is more appropriate),

and have our Mighty God invite her for honeymoon beside His majestic throne in His beautiful Kingdom in Heaven.."

well... there goes our work... not only have we wasted so much time on the assignments (especially BP), also the time to type these nonsense which are simply illustrations to literally describe the feelings of the hard drive's owner now... who is sitting beside me... well also to describe how sorry we feel for ourselves now... including steady chin and shah who obviously had their part in the assignments which perished together with the hard drive.... T_T...

wait till she sees this... haha

*another quality post from minghui... muahahah...

Good morning sifu.....

Wow...just got my streamyx service yesterday..and i've been surfing for more informations for the whole night.
Next week is a tough one.....one presentation and two major assignments due.
I think I have to push myself to the very limit to finish all the stuff.

As time passes by...it's gonna be the last BP lecture next week. It's so fast that it has already come to the end of the semester. However, there is no time for jokes and no time for fun..the stresses and pressures are on my shoulders now...they're killing me...

I'm sure that Emmeline has sent the photo which taken after the lecture to you right? well...the photo is a valuable one..keep it safe and well sifu...i m now thinking wat colour of shirt that we are going to wear for next week lecture. hmm....it's ok..we'll surprise you again next week!

Have a nice day sifu...i have to start for the 'BATTLE'(assignments) again......oh ya...before i forget...POSEIDON is a good movie to watch...I haven't watch it but from the making and the preview...it will not dissapoint the audience i think...
See ya..
