"Winning isn't everything, but the effort to win is!" - Anonymous

hmmm... having done 2 tutorial exercise and briefly looking at the other ones, i think that the exercise is good in a way. they are not just asking you to regurgitate some marketing concept from somewhere but it's asking u to apply some marketing concept to a real life examples.(that's if i'm not interpreting the questions wrongly... hahah) there is 1 downpoint to the tut qns though. you're sorta 'obligated' to do it every week even though only 2 will be chosen at the end of the sem. so it's kinda time comsuming on top of the other things we have to do like work for other units and also the SM project research. well tat's my 2 cents worth... :-)

yo see fuu...

i wuz like thinkin...
da chinese student thingy, why not add the non-chinese students along your research? i mean not as your direct samples, but maybe as a sample control.. cos i've several non chinese frends who are, well surprisingly, chinese educated.. and shame to say some can speak and write better chinese than i can.. so i think, it is not just us (the chinese students) to be observed but i guess the rest of the students as well.. i guess malaysian education system is more or less affect by the 'whadda-ya-call-dat' root or rote learning method...

well.. only some suggestions... hope it helps, but if it doesn't, just ignore me.. lol..

cheers...

sifu..

like wat ming hui said, the non-chinese student thingy, i am a malay dude n have been studying in chinese skool since i can remember, so does that categorised me as a chinese learner? juz asking..

Sifu is not trying to segregate u lar Shah...we all know that u r a so called 'chinese learner'...but what sifu wants is a pure chinese learner where they have chinese blood circulating in their body mah....

Still got a bit different 1 lar....am i right Sifu?

Wah... how come my blog never have so much feedback.. so envy you la sifu... Anyway, talking about the study... I'm working very hard and there is still a lot of things to look into for the project.. the chanllenging part is to analyse the financial performance and a lot of other reading need to be done to know the company performance... Hope I could reach your level of standard lo.. haha.. happy study to all....

Hello supporters,
Thank you very much for all the comments, unfortunately I can't include Shahril in my research but don't worry you are still one of my VIPs; I welcome you here as well - anyone would like to share our first case discussion; Australian Post. Eventhough it's was very early in the morning - but your enthusiasm in the discussion really surprised me; kuddos to the first group who had enlightened the discussion.

Hi geeky69,
Good comment on the applying the concept in the Tutorial q. Well, that's the journey of a student...look on the positve note - it's a burden but then it helps you to understand better right! keep posting your comment - you're one of my regular visitors now...thanks...

learning sometimes can be fun but some times it do pressure me a lot. especially in marketing unit.. everything is so practical and need to apply in the real world and make sure that the strategies work and always increase the productivities and comes up with new ideas of solving it. i wonder whether we can really use all this stuff outside when most of the thing not really follow the theory in the books. well we can see most of the great ppl outside not really expert in their study but they really can do very well in the business. But what to do.. parent send us here to learn.. so must come up with someting to impress them and most important ... the learning outcome open up my mind and make me know more about the market outside there... i hope it worth it.. so it can pay the effort of "brain burst" ~ :p i hope i can pick some of the other's ppl brain and attach to mine so i can it will become easier to tackle all the prob..~ hehe

Hi akleincney..
Well, i do agree with u that we are not sure whether we could apply the theories from the book when we are working outside..

you are not the one having this kind of questions in your mind...most of the students are just like u...

Like what sifu always say, study 'smart' but not study 'hard'.

In my opinion, i think we really have to be very sensitive and alert to the current issues..not only in business sector but all the happenings as a whole. Sifu recommend us to read the Edge and some other business materials in order to make us to think out of the box.

I am sure that most of the students follow only the 'facts' from the textbook rather than getting new informations from other places. This is not a good sign of course.

When you are working outside, it requires your common sense or external knowledge rather than the 'facts' from the book..

Textbook acts as a guide for us to study..we actually need to find out the answers by ourselves by doing researches, analysis and other methods..

Well, i am just sharing my thoughts here..hope that i did not offend anyone here....hehe..

Yo! Yo! Waddup! Waddup! ma sifu, wassup... wassup... Hwzit hangin? Guess u knw who this is? Itz "LLcoolJ" in da house is pack full of juice n' ready 4 use, duce...!!! (LLcoolJ) Stands for "Ladies Love Cool Jackson" Whahaha (My evil laugh) Coz I'm cool for d ladies... (Geez... m I so ego or what, kidd!) But to me, itz just a stepping stone for me, I keep tellin everyone, includin mum that I wish I could be jst like u, possibilities but itz too impossible coz tht's jst plain u, no one can b like sham aka sifu... Ur just a manufacturer for leaders, should've a company called "Sham's wonders of the world" Hehe... Hope ur ok wth this kind of comment coz I'm plain straight! Not jst that but at the same time, I observe the way u lead the class ever since When I'm in ur Marketing 100 Class, till Strategic Marketin 310n now, Business Policy 320... I've learned heeps n heeps of stuff from u but I'm jst so greedy to hog everything 2 myself, but what the hack... Not to mentioned bout y'day's tute, "The bloody Aussie Post" Ops I mean "The Australian Post" I've learn ur point of view n other people's point of view, which I think itz cool, From the looks of ur eyes, I know that u expect me to participate y'day but was too late to reach there coz m still runnin pentium-1 some how, others got there b4 me, so I guess the next time, should just say it straight openly...!!! To be continue......

today's lect (SM) is very interesting all the explanation and the example given are so relevan and very easy to understand especially the fishing net. plan well before throw.. so that the target market "catch" are useful instead on investing a lots of money in targeting the wrong target market but at last doesnt give any contribution for the actual market..there are funny story behind this fishing net.. haha.. when sham mention about it i remember my mum use to use the fishing net and throw at the chicken cos ppl dont allow them to play near river. so the victim here is the chicken.. hahaha.. and when my grandma know bout that she go and chase my mum .. haha.. stupid childhood story.. but if apply in marketing concept here also useful as the target market is "chicken" rite sham.. hehe

Hi akleincney;
ha..ha..I laughed when I read your comment. Yeap - you are right, at least your mum knows that her target group are those 'chicks' who loved to play near the river. Sometimes, when you have all those sotries behind the concept you get to understand it better. What do you think and those this improve your thinking skills ?

Hi Reiko...

Why don't you try and look outside the box(I mean...joining the study group or participating during the class discussion. Give it a try and I am sure you can benefit from it besides your own 'self-study.

Today's lec is nice. I have a different ways of viewing SMP process. I believe that everyone has an aim in life. In order to reach there, we need to go through in a process. Setting short term goals to narrow the gap. Identifying goals is like identifying "potential customer", leveling down to "target customer".Then the next step would be setting plan and taking action to reach the goal. In my view, marketing concept is not only use in studies or business but also in life.

Hi Lexy,

Nice note from you, I am happy that my VIPs are on the right track. Do you agree that learning can be as fun as playing games if you know what you want?
